Little brother of the PR21 railway gearbox, the PR18 railway gearbox is dedicated to lighter machines (railcars, maintenance-of-way vehicles). It retains the same design with its two integrated reduction stages but in a smaller volume.
Presentation
The CFD PR18 railway gearbox is designed for a diameter of wheel bore up to 185mm, allowing up to 16 t or more of axle load. Unlike the PR21 axle, the bevel gear is installed on the axle. This assembly allows the possibility of creating a single-stage secondary railway gearbox, necessary depending on the type of bogie used. The primary stage consists of a parallel-shaft reduction stage located on the input shaft. CFD calculates its axles for intensive use, so the gear modules used guarantee an unrivalled service life and reliability.
As standard, the railway gearbox is available with a ratio of 2.41 for passenger applications, for example, or with a ratio of 7.077 for mounting on light locomotives (e.g. metric networks). Other ratios are available on request. The double reduction stages make it possible to easily adapt the final ratio without modifying the crankcase. The internal lubrication system ensures optimum operation of the bearings and gears.
