These types of tractors were the replica of the model 400 adapted to the normal track.

  • The type 432 had two independent two-axle bogies driven by two 400 HP M.G.O. engines.
  • The type 433 A was equipped with two two-axle bogies connected by connecting rods driven by two 275 HP Poyaud engines.
  • The type 433 F, similar to the previous one, was driven by a 500 HP supercharged M.G.O. engine.

These three new engines were presented to the S.N.C.F. management, to the representatives of the French Overseas Railways and of the foreign railways, by the Director of the Company on 8th June 1961 at Coulommiers station.

Description of the tractor type BB432 and BB433

Identical in appearance, these machines had a central cab accessible from the front and rear ends by means of two doors framing the engine hoods and by the engine inspection platforms. In addition, the general shape of these tractors was reminiscent of the BB 400 and their decoration was similar.

They had a tare weight of 68 t and could reach speeds of up to 70 km/hour.

Supply and application of the tractor types BB432 and BB433

These models were taken over by the C.F.D. for their Avalonnais line or sold to secondary networks as follows:

TRACTOR BB 432

Built in 1959, this tractor after being rented to the S.N.C.F., was assigned on October 10, 1968 to the Autun depot. It provided traction for heavy goods trains until 1986, when it was sold to the SPENO Company.

TRACTOR

This tractor built in 1958 under the n° 433 A, was directly assigned to the Autun depot on 20 June 1958 under the n° BB 433 where it remained until its sale in 1986 to the Chamber of Commerce of Colmar. This machine was the only one to constantly ensure the goods service of this line.

TRACTOR BB 433 C and 433 D

These two tractors were built in 1960 and leased to the S.N.C.F. depot in Saint-Etienne on March 30, 1960 and January 10, 1961. The first was equipped with two 275 HP supercharged Poyaud tractors and the second with two 300 HP Poyaud tractors. They were registered respectively: BB 60,601 AND 60,602.

The 60 601 was sold to the RTA on 15 July 1964 and was renumbered BB 404.

The 60 602 was sold to the PLA on July 25, 1963 where it was registered BB 07.

A third BB 433 was built in 1961 for rental at the S.N.C.F. depot in Montchanin:

TRACTOR BB 60 603

Built under the n° 885 in 1961, this tractor was delivered on November 7, 1961 and received the n° BB 60 603. It was identical to the BB 60 601. On 13 July 1966, at the end of its rental contract, it was taken over by the C.F.D. who assigned it to the Autun depot as a reinforcement. This tractor was used in the goods department until 1986, when it was sold to a company in the North of France.

TRACTOR BB 433 E

An identical machine built under the n° BB 433 E for CFTA in 1961 was delivered to Provins on 15 February 1962. Assigned No. BB 551, it was equipped with two 275 HP Poyaud engines, supercharged. Replaced later by two 300 HP Beaudoin engines, it ran between Longueville, Provins and Villers Saint-Georges.

TRACTOR BB 433 F

The BB 433 F was in fact the Y 9006 prototype, built in 1959. It was equipped with a supercharged MGO 500 HP engine, lent by the S.N.C.F. Assigned for rental to the S.N.C.F. depot in Dijon, it was re-registered 040 DI 1 then taken over by the C.F.D. on June 13, 1968, it received the n° BB 60 001. Its engine was exchanged for a 12-cylinder Poyaud in 1962. Its transmission was modified in 1967. It was in reserve service until May 1978, when it was sold to Morocco.

  • Of these eight machines built by the Ateliers de Montmirail, only the BB 432, BB 433, BB 60 001 and BB 60 603 tractors were used by the C.F.D. to operate the Morvan line.
